Speaker’s profile:

Ms Gillian Castka is a chartered civil engineer with post graduate studies and a particular interest in engineering hydraulic and hydrology. She arrived in Hong Kong in 1990 as a consultant to support the establishment of the recently formed Drainage Services Department. She helped to develop the drainage and sewerage master plans and introduce the first digital models of the infrastructure systems. She contributed to the drafting of DSD‘s Stormwater Drainage Manual and the Land Drainage Ordinance (Cap 446). She was subsequently appointed as Senior hydrologist on KCRC’s West Rail project where she arranged a licence for KCRC to access the Hong Kong Observatory’s real time rainfall records. This is something (20 years later) that most of us enjoy for free as an App on our iphones.
